BCPS Graduate Profile: Our True North

At Bay City Public Schools, we acknowledge the significance of postsecondary education or training in today's economy. While we recognize that not all young adults need to pursue this path for success, our role is not to decide for our students. Instead, our mission is to develop their capacities, empowering them to make informed decisions about their future.

To help us achieve this, we've worked closely with the community, including insights from business leaders and members of organizations like Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce. Our Parent Roundtables and Business Leader Summits, attended by over 100 different business and community members, have been instrumental in this process.

The collective input has helped shape our "Graduate Profile," a comprehensive blueprint for our educational program. This profile specifies the knowledge, skills, and competencies students are expected to acquire by graduation, focusing on three key areas:

  1. Being Aware of Self and Others: Reflective, open to growth, resilient, self-sufficient, empathetic, adaptable, responsible, and geared towards postsecondary success.

  2. Being Eligible for Opportunities: Credentialed, motivated, qualified, and on track for their chosen path.

  3. Being Prepared with Skills for Success: Collaborative, innovative, communicative, analytical, creative, and resourceful.

Our graduate profile establishes a shared vision and goals for teaching and learning, ensuring all students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college, career, and life. It aligns our curriculum with the needs of the local community and global society.

Furthermore, by clarifying educational goals and their relevance to future aspirations, our graduate profile enhances student engagement and motivation. It also engages parents, teachers, and other stakeholders in understanding the district's educational goals and priorities.
